Ramayan Chanting to observe Ramayana Masam!

The Malayalam month of ‘Karkidakam’ is traditionally observed as ‘Ramayana Masam’ in Kerala.  This year it started on July 17th and ends on August 16.  Adhyatma Ramayanam Kilippattu, the famous Malayalam Version of the Ramayana written by Thunchath Ezhuthachan, regarded as father of Malayalam verse, is recited during this month, on all the days.

Amrita Vidyalayam, Tanur had begun Ramayan Chanting as a part of the Ramayan month celebrations.   To mark this event, the teachers and students of Nature Club organised various activities.  The word ‘Dasapushpam’ constitutes a group of ten auspicious medicinal herbs to which the people of Kerala attach great cultural and medical significance. They are Vernonia (Puvamkurunnel), Curculigo orchioides (Nilappana ), Emilia sonchifolia (Muyalcheviyan), Biophytum sensitivum(Mukkutty), Eclipta alba(Kayyonni), Cynodon dactylon(Karuka), Aerva lanata(Cheroola), Cardiospermum halicacabum(Valliyuzhinja), Evolvulus alsinoides(Vishnukranthi)  and  Ipomoea sepiaria(Thiruthali). To rise to the occasion, the members of the Tanur Amrita Vidyalayam Nature Club planted the saplings of these medicinal plants.
